"Climate change is for real. We have just a small window of opportunity and it is closing rather rapidly. There is not a moment to lose." said Dr. Rajendra Pachauri, the chairman of the official Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, currently in Paris, France where tomorrow, we will hear the latest news on what the human impact really is on Global Warming.

While scientists are primed to present hard facts that hopefully will offer a clear and insightful picture on the pressing problem of Climate Change... we will be watching carefully from afar. In Vancouver, we switched off all power in our home / office for 5 minutes along with Europe's grand monuments such as the Eiffel Tower and Rome's Colusseum... and wondered what the impact of that action would be - if any and were inspired anew to continue our efforts to lessen our carbon-footprint on the earth in every possible way.

Ironically, though the globe is heating up... it is still winter in Canada and to survive, we must stay warm.

We have one of the few remaining wood-burning fireplaces in Vancouver and we warmed our hands with a real, crackling, cosy fire... made not from real wood... but a java log. These amazing logs are made of coffee waste and divert 42 Million kg/year of coffee waste from landfills each year. The logs also burn clean, have no chemical smell and are 7 times cleaner than wood, leaving barely any residue post combustion.

In fact, I am going to inch a little closer to the fire... with a clean conscience... and no, the fire does not smell like your morning cup o' joe! :-)
